College basketball weekly: Arizona State women head to cross-town rival Grand Canyon

The Arizona State women's basketball team will return home after spending the last few weeks on the road.

ASU will first stop at cross-town rival Grand Canyon on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. matchup at GCU Arena. The Lopes are 5-0 this season and won both of their last two games against North Dakota and Lindenwood at its host tournament over Thanksgiving weekend. The game will be shown on ESPN+ and on FOX10 Extra.

Both programs have not faced each other since 1994, when ASU won 99-67. This will be the third meeting for the teams.

ASU will return to Desert Financial Arena on Friday for the inaugural Briann January Classic. The tournament will honor January, the recent inductee into the Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Fame in October.

ASU will start on Friday against Massachusetts at 6 p.m. and will finish the three-game tournament with Missouri on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

After finishing non-conference play 6-0 and earning two wins over ranked opponents, No. 4 Arizona’s men will open Pac-12 play at Utah on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Wildcats will return home on Sunday to host California at 3 p.m. ... ASU stayed home over the Thanksgiving holiday and took two wins with margins of more than 20 points against Grambling State and Alcorn State. The Sun Devils will open conference play at Colorado on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and will return home to host Stanford Sunday at 5 p.m. … Grand Canyon will host Alcorn State Tuesday at 7 p.m. and will head to Wyoming on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Arizona women to face New Mexico

No. 15 Arizona women extended its undefeated streak to six games over the weekend and will have rest before hitting the road to face New Mexico on Sunday at 1 p.m. Arizona has won the last four against New Mexico.
