College of Central Florida baseball opens NJCAA Division I World Series with victory
The College of Central Florida baseball team defeated Cowley County Community College, 8-2, in the first round of the NJCAA Division I World Series on Saturday at Sam Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Back in the World Series for the first time in 24 years and seeded fourth, the Patriots (47-15) got on the board early and never looked back when John Marant hit a solo home run in the first inning.

CF took down the seventh-seeded Tigers (50-10) behind Landon Ginn (6.1 IP, 2 hits and a run allowed, 8 Ks), Caleb Cali (3-for-5, 2 runs, 2B, RBI), Victor Castillo (3-for-3, 2 BBs, run), Kevin Kilpatrick (3-for-5, run, RBI, 3B), Carson Bayne (2-for-4, run, 2B), Edrick Felix (1-for-5, 3 RBI, HR) and Jackson Taylor (1-for-4, HR).
The win improved Ginn to 10-1. Mason Ronan struck out three and allowed no hits in 1.1 innings of relief, and Connor Godwin earned his fifth save by closing the game out, allowing a run in 1.1 innings.
CF will next face No. 1 Walters State (58-5) on Monday at 9:30 p.m. The Senators overcame a four-run deficit to beat Hartford Community College, 12-6, on Saturday.
