College Corner: Locals graduate university, earn academic honors

Jan. 7—Colleges and universities have announced those graduating and those named to their respective academic lists. Below is a list of recently submitted notifications regarding students from Jacksonville and the surrounding area.

Angelo State University

Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, conferred 625 undergraduate and graduate degrees on 620 graduates during the 2023 fall commencement exercises on Dec. 16 at the ASU Junell Center/Stephens Arena.

Locals among the graduates include:

—Britton Jones, of Troup, Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, magna cum laude

—and Hunter Townsend, of Alto, Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance.

ASU also released the names of those on the Fall 2023 Dean's List.

To be eligible for the ASU Dean's List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Britton Jones, of Troup and Mason Wallace, of New Summerfield, were named to the Dean's List.

Southern New Hampshire University

Southern New Hampshire University announced the names of students making the Fall 2023 President's List and Dean's List.

Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the President's List. Those who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.500 to 3.699 for the reporting term are named to the Dean's List.

Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer.

Gabrielle Freestone, of Jacksonville, and Cynthia Kinsman, of Alto were named to SNHU's President's List.

Emily Silveira, of Jacksonville, was named to the fall 2023 Dean's List.
