College Football Fans Build Giant Beer Cup Snake as Free Drinks Flow at Dublin Stadium

Fans of college football who turned up to see Nebraska take on Northwestern at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on August 27 had the added novelty of free food and drinks, after a technical issue meant vendors couldn’t processes card payments.

The stadium said credit card transactions were not working due to technical problems experienced by their provider, SumUp.

Videos on social media showed long lines as fans sought to take advantage of the free food and beer.

Paige Dimakos noted “Free beer in Ireland going well” as she spotted a giant beer cup snake being made by fans.

Dimakos’s video shows the snake rising from one level of the stand to the next. She commented on Twitter, “2nd level achieved.”

There was plenty of excitement on the field too, as the Northwestern Wildcats beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers 31-28. “Not even free beer can fix my football team,” Huskers fan Dimakos lamented. Credit: Paige Dimakos via Storyful
