To be completely honest, this isn’t a great Saturday for college football marquee matchups. Next week? Oh, yeah. This week, not so much.

There is not one single game between ranked teams this Saturday. There could be up to six next Saturday, including Ohio State-Notre Dame, Colorado-Oregon, Ole Miss-Alabama, Oregon State-Washington State and Utah-UCLA. Florida State-Clemson is also next Saturday.

There are interesting SEC games Saturday, starting with No. 14 LSU at Mississippi State at noon on ESPN. Zach Arnett is off to a 2-0 start as Mississippi State’s head coach. The Bulldogs beat Arizona 31-24 in overtime last week. After being toasted by Florida State in the opener, LSU could use an SEC road win.

South Carolina is at No. 1 Georgia at 3:30 p.m. on CBS. South Carolina is 1-1 with the Gamecocks’ loss coming to Drake Maye and North Carolina in the opener. Georgia hasn’t been overly impressive in its first two wins by a combined score of 93-10 over UT Martin and Ball State.

No. 11 Tennessee travels to Gainesville to battle Florida at 7 p.m. on ESPN. The Vols are 2-0. Florida opened the season with a 24-11 loss to now 12th-ranked Utah, before taking care of business in a 49-7 victory over McNeese State.

Outside the SEC, 2-0 Western Kentucky travels to Columbus to meet No. 6 Ohio State at 4 p.m. on Fox. WKU quarterback Austin Reed is 15th nationally in passing yards per game at 294.5. He’s thrown for six touchdowns without an interception.

Kentucky wide receiver Barion Brown (7) celebrates a play during last Saturday’s win over Eastern Kentucky. The Wildcats host Akron on Saturday night.
