College football legend Herschel Walker has harsh words for athletes supporting BLM
Football legend Herschel Walker does not agree with athletes supporting Black Lives Matter, he said in a passionate Twitter video Sunday.
The Heisman trophy winner at Georgia turned NFL star said he saw something Saturday “that really, really disturbed” him.
“I saw a bunch of people holding a BLM sign burning the Holy Bible. Burning the flag of the United States of America, also burning a cross,” he said in the video. “And I started thinking... NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB: is this the people you’re supporting right now? Is it the movement? Is it the organization? Because I don’t think that’s right.”
Dozens of NBA players have worn “Black Lives Matter” shirts and kneeled during the national anthem since games resumed last week. Some have the words on the back of their jersey instead of their name, which the league has allowed.
Many MLB and WNBA players have shown similar support for Black Lives Matter in the beginning of their seasons in July.
But it has struck a chord with Walker, who wrote in his Twitter post, “America wake up ... if we love our Country, let’s speak up, stand up and protect it!”
Walker also spoke on Fox News on Saturday about the topic. He said “it hurts” to see players take a knee during the national anthem.
“We were taking a knee a couple years ago and what did it accomplish? I said, ‘Guys, what is your endgame? What do you want? No one is saying what they want,” Walker told Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro. “I saw where they say they want justice for Breonna (Taylor) and I do too, but what does that mean? Why don’t people give solutions rather than do things against the greatest country, which is the United States of America.”
