Record-breaking Canton South High School quarterback Poochie Snyder has his first Division I college football scholarship offer.

The junior announced on Friday he received an offer from the University of Maine. This was following his visit to the campus.

"It felt amazing," Snyder told The Canton Repository. "Just to get the first one and hopefully set the stage for many more to come. The visit was amazing. I loved the coaches, and the campus was better than I expected. (It's) just a really exciting moment to get that first one."

Three weeks prior, Snyder visited Eastern Illinois. He also confirmed to the Repository he will be holding a workout in front of college coaches next month at Canton South.

Snyder is coming off a record-breaking 2022 season, as he produced 4,723 yards on offense and 56 total touchdowns. He surpassed 3,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing last fall. He also became South's career passing yards leader early last season.

The Wildcats went 9-4 last season, winning their first league title in 59 years and winning two postseason games for the first time in program history before falling to Jefferson Area in the regional semifinals.

Snyder made first-team All-Ohio along with his go-to wide receiver Tavon Castle, who had 75 catches for 1,195 yards and 10 touchdowns. South opens the 2023 season against St. Clairsville at 7 p.m. Aug 18.

Alliance lineman Jaezen Lewis lands third Divison I offer

Alliance offensive lineman Jaezen Lewis continues his recruiting momentum as he landed an offer from the University of Massachusetts on Thursday. This is Lewis' third offer. Miami (Ohio) and Eastern Michigan are also on his list.

Lewis is listed at 6-foot-6, 315 pounds, and is a member of the 2025 class. In his sophomore season, Lewis started at right guard for Alliance and helped pave the way for Alliance’s 2,424 rushing yards, and also protected Alliance all-state quarterback Brendan Zurbrugg, who currently holds nine FBS offers.

Lewis earned second-team All-Northeast Inland District. Lewis is one of the four returning starters on the Alliance offensive line.
