For the fifth time in school history, the University of Utah will host “College GameDay.”

The popular ESPN college football show announced Sunday that it is headed to Salt Lake City for the Utes’ matchup against Oregon, a game that kicks off at 1:30 p.m. MDT Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium and will be televised on Fox.

It’s the third time this season that a Pac-12 team will host the show. On Sept. 16, Colorado hosted “College GameDay” for its matchup against Colorado State, and two weeks ago on Oct. 14, Washington hosted it for the Huskies’ game against Oregon.

Both of those games were thrillers. The Buffaloes beat the Rams in double overtime, and Washington edged the Ducks in a back-and-forth contest between two top 10 programs.

Utah’s history hosting ‘College GameDay’

It will have been seven years — almost to the day — since Utah last hosted “College GameDay.”

Here’s a look at the history of the show making an appearance in Salt Lake City:

The date — the opponent — the result

Nov. 20, 2004 — vs. BYU — Utah won, 52-21.

Nov. 6, 2010 — vs. TCU — TCU won, 47-7.

Oct. 10, 2015 — vs. California — Utah won, 30-24.

Oct. 29, 2016 — vs. Washington — Washington won, 31-24.

What’s at stake when Utah plays Oregon

Both the Utes and Ducks are coming off victories heading into this year’s matchup.

Utah (6-1, 3-1 Pac-12) beat USC 34-32 in Los Angeles on Saturday, starting off the most difficult portion of its schedule with a win over a ranked conference opponent.

Oregon (6-1, 3-1 Pac-12), meanwhile, defeated Washington State 38-24 behind another strong performance from star quarterback Bo Nix.

With both teams already suffering one conference loss, the Utes and Ducks are both looking to stay in the conference chase with a win.
