In the men’s meet, Utica graduate Jay Figgins, a freshman at Otterbein, placed fifth in the 800 (1:56.60).

Schieber provides spark

Cate Schieber stepped right into the lineup at the college level and picked up where she left off at Granville for the Belmont Abbey women’s basketball team.

Schieber was the fourth-leading scorer and best off the bench at 8.4 points per game for the Crusaders. Schieber, who started five games and appeared in all 28, tied for the team lead with 64 3-pointers and 17 blocks and led the team with 49 steals.

Schieber was clutch in the Crusaders’ biggest game. She scored a season-high 20 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter, during the Crusaders’ 55-51 victory against UNC-Pembroke to win the outright regular season Conference Carolinas championship.

Antritt battles inside

Harlei Antritt had a hand in another conference championship and run in the NAIA Tournament for the Rio Grande women’s basketball team.

The Newark Catholic graduate, a sophomore, started every game and totaled nine points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocks for the RedStorm in a 93-72 victory against Midway to win the River States Conference tournament championship. The RedStorm finished 30-4, reaching the NAIA Sweet 16.

Antritt averaged 5.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, shooting 45% from the floor and 72% from the foul line. Her 13-point performance in a 99-65 victory against Indiana East in the RSC quarterfinals was her sixth double-digit scoring game of the season.

Collier reaches final

Dante Collier and his Mount Union men’s basketball teammates were a shot away from winning an NCAA Division III national championship.

Collier, a Licking Heights graduate, had his freshman season go the distance, but it ended when the Purple Raiders fell on a buzzer beater for Christopher Newport in Saturday’s championship game. Collier played one minute in the 74-72 loss and appeared in all but one game off the bench.

Collier made 14 3-pointers and recorded 15 assists in limited minutes for the Purple Raiders, who finished 30-3.
