College Roundup: Adrian men's volleyball picks up sweep

ADRIAN — The Adrian College men's volleyball team picked up a sweep against Mount St. Joseph Saturday to snap a two-match losing streak.

The Bulldogs (14-10) won three tight sets, 25-22, 28-26, 25-20, as they were led by a big match from Chase Heuer.

The win was Adrian's first Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League victory of the season as it moved to 1-3.

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The Saints wrapped up their season dropping their 13th-straight loss.

SHU finished with a mark of 5-16 after a 25-20, 25-16, 25-20 defeat.

Adrian at Indiana Wesleyan Polar Bear Invite

MARION, Ind. — The Bulldogs had a number of top-10 finishes at the Polar Bear Invite, but got two in the top four.

On the women's side, Emme Koutz took third in the 800-meter run (2:30.14). On the men's side, Weston Kvalevog took fourth in the high jump (1.85 meters).

BASEBALL

Concordia 5, Siena Heights 1

ANN ARBOR — The Saints were unable to knock off the strong Cardinals team and missed out on a second chance as Game 2 of the doubleheader was postponed.

SHU (4-13, 1-4 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) got 4.2 innings out of starter Ben Weadock, who took the loss as he gave up four runs, on six hits and a walk while striking out one.

Adrian at Baldwin Wallace (DH)

BEREA, Ohio — The Bulldogs dropped a pair on the road as Baldwin Wallace won a tight opener, 2-0, before rolling to a 12-1, five-inning mercy.

Adrian (7-5), which hadn't played in 20 days, has lost four-straight after a 7-1 start in Florida.

ADRIAN — The Bulldogs and Anderson were tied 3-3 after the first period, but it was all Anderson the rest of the way.

Adrian (3-4) was shutout in the second period and trailed 5-3 at the half. Anderson outscored the Bulldogs 6-2 in the second half.

ADRIAN — The Saints were shutout in the opening period and gave up nine goals to open the second half as Marian rolled for the WHAC win.

SHU (2-5, 1-1 WHAC) trailed 3-0 after the first and it was 7-3 at the half before Marian netted nine goals in the third to take a 16-4 lead.

TENNIS

Hope at Adrian

ADRIAN — Both the Bulldogs' men's and women's teams took on Hope in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play and both came out with 8-1 losses.

The No. 1 doubles team of Brandon Falk and Sebastian Smith won 8-7(7-3) while the women's lone win came at No. 4 singles as Ava Hovey won 6-4, 7-5.

The men's team is 4-11 while the women are 3-11-1.
