College Roundup: Adrian women stay hot on the ice

Adrian College improved to 18-2 on the season with a convincing 7-0 shutout over Concordia of Wisconsin.

The Bulldogs found the net five times in the first period and claimed their 12th shutout of the season.

Une Bjelland had two goals and three assists. Jessica VonRuden, Karmen Anderson and Zoe Lohrei each had a goal and an assist. Annie Gilbert recorded the shutout with nine saves.

The Bulldogs will look to sweep the series with an afternoon game at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Arrington Ice Arena.

MEN’S HOCKEY

Bulldogs remain in first place

Adrian College picked up where they left off Friday night on Saturday, beating Aurora 8-2, to sweep the weekend series.

Matus Spodniak had three goals to lead Adrian. Nic Tallarico picked up the win in net.

Adrian has 37 points in the NCHA standings to hold on to first place. The Bulldogs travel to St. Norbert for a two-game series that begins Friday.

COLLEGE WRESTLING

Three Bulldogs win titles

Adrian had three champions at Saturday’s MIAA Individual Championships Saturday at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.

Zach Altman (165), Derick Duval (174) and Dylan Wellbaum (197) won titles. Clinton graduate Brayden Randolph placed third in the 197 division.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Siena Heights 66, Lawrence Tech 52

Siena Heights broke open a close game with a 20-point outburst in the fourth quarter Saturday to beat Lawrence Tech by 14.

The two teams traded the lead seven times in the first half before forging a 31-31 halftime tie. SHU opened the second half with a 5-0 stretch -- a layup by Eva Alcock and a 3-pointer by Kayla Hinton -- and led the rest of the way. The Saints led 46-41 through three quarters.

Peyton Banks (19) and Sha’kyia Parker (15) led the Saints in scoring. Hinton added 12 points an Allye Minor scored 10 off the bench for SHU. It was senior night for the Saints.

SHU is 21-4 on the season and 14-3 in the WHAC with three games to play. The Saints host Cornerstone at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Salenbien leads Hillsdale

Lenawee Christian graduate Dani Salenbien had one of her biggest college games of her career Saturday, scoring 15 points to lead Hillsdale College to a 66-55 win over Ursuline.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Lawrence Tech 65, Siena Heights 53

Siena Heights fell to Lawrence Tech in a WHAC game Saturday afternoon.

Curtis Bell III and Davin Walker both scored 16 points for SHU. Colin Butter added 12 for the 7-18 Saints.

Hope 73, Adrian College 62

The Saints lost at home Saturday, dipping to 5-16 on the season.

De’Ovion Price led Adrian with 19 points in 39 minutes of action. Chace Fields finished with 12 points, Kendall Bellamy added nine.

Big game for Clark

Britton Deerfield product Zac Clark scored a career-high 25 points Saturday for Concordia in a 78-73 loss to No. 8 Indiana Tech.

Clark had 17 points in the first seven minutes of the game.

Concordia is 8-16.

COMPETITIVE CHEER

Saints have season-high score

MARIAN, Ind. -- The Siena Heights competitive cheer team registered a season-high score of 79.83 while placing fourth at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday.

The Saints finished behind host IWU (87.80), Taylor (82.03) and (80.98).
