College Roundup: Adrian wrestling wins MIAA for first time since 1971
Adrian College won its first MIAA wrestling title in five decades with a 35-12 win over Trine.
The Bulldogs, which recently revived its wrestling program, last won a conference title in 1971. Adrian went 4-0 in league play.
Zach Phifer (125) had a pin to start the day for a 6-0 Bulldog lead, then Tanner Smith and Zachary Platte had a decision to forge a 12-12 tie.
Zach Altman got a major decision at 165, Derick Duvall won by technical fall at 174 and Blake Williams won a major decision as Adrian seized control of the match. Dylan Wellbaum won at 197 and Kyle Emery closed the night with a pin.
Adrian will host the MIAA Individual Championships at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Adrian College 70, Olivet 63
With two straight wins, Adrian College is just a game out of .500.
The Bulldogs beat Olivet Wednesday as six players scored at least 8 points. The Bulldogs trailed after the first quarter but went up 29-27 at halftime and were up seven going into the fourth quarter.

MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Indiana Tech 84, Siena Heights 50
Indiana Tech jumped out to a big early lead on Siena Heights and never looked back Wednesday in a WHAC game.
Indiana Tech held early leads of 9-0, 17-11 and 26-11. By halftime the lead was 42-22. Thirteen different Warriors scored in the win.
Three Lenawee County grads played for the Saints – Cole Shiels (Britton Deerfield), Jackson Ledyard (Adrian) and Gavin Sluss (Lenawee Christian). Sluss hit a triple. SHU is 7-17.

The Bulldogs had five players reach double figures in a game that provided plenty of offensive fireworks. The Bulldogs (5-15) outscored Olivet 59-52 in the second half alone.
