College roundup: CMCC's Emily Strachan commits to Division I Cal-State Fullerton

May 3—Central Maine Community College sophomore Emily Strachan is set to join the growing number of Maine athletes to play women's basketball at the NCAA Division I level.

Strachan, a 2021 Lewiston High School graduate, committed to continue her basketball career at Cal-State Fullerton, she and CMCC coach Andrew Morong announced on social media Wednesday.

"Start here, go anywhere," Morong wrote on Twitter. He added that he is happy for Strachan, as well as her family. "She earned this."

Strachan, a 5-foot-7 guard, led the Mustangs in scoring in both of her seasons at CMCC. This year, she averaged 13.8 points per game.

After the season she became the second Central Maine CC player — along with Edward Little graduate Brooke Reynolds in 2019 — selected to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Two-Year College Coaches' All-American team.

Strachan, who earned a 3.5 GPA, also was picked for the Yankee Small School Conference first team. She also was named the college's Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

Several Maine natives have played Division I women's basketball recently, most notably Gorham's Makenzie Holmes at Indiana and Greely's Anna DeWolfe, who recently transferred to Notre Dame after three standout seasons at Fordham.

Oxford Hills senior Sierra Carson has committed to play at Dartmouth. Also, a pair of area players recently announced offers from Division I schools: Oxford Hills sophomore Ella Pelletier received an offer from the University of Maine, and Lewiston junior Natalie Beaudoin received one from Vermont.

Central Maine Community College sophomore Rolando Rodriguez Jr. has been selected as the Yankee Small School Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the week of April 25, the conference announced this week.

Rodriguez, an infielder/outfielder from Boston, has a .301 batting average, .516 slugging percentage and .442 on-base percentage this season, with two home runs, 24 RBIs and 31 runs.

Maine Maritime's Jayden Wilson was honored as the Northeast Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.

The Lewiston High School graduate also set school records last week in single-season points (94) and goals (57).

In the Mariners' two games, Wilson tallied nine goals and six assists.
