College Roundup: Parker scores career-high 31 for Siena Heights

Sha'Kyia Parker scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Siena Heights women’s basketball team (9-2) to a 79-74 win over Rochester Saturday.

Peyton Banks and Parker scored 21 of the Saints' 23 points with Banks going 5-6 from the floor and Parker going 4-7. That brought the Saints within 37-36 at halftime.

The third quarter saw a 24-15 advantage for Rochester, which forced seven Saints' turnovers in the quarter.

Parker outscored the entire Rochester team with 15 points to only 13 points for the Warriors.  The Saints come back turn a 10-point deficit into a 5-point victory.

Sue Syljebeck, Siena Heights: "I though Shaq stepped up again in crunch time for us with the absence of Banks in the last quarter. However, E'Anna Won's defense was the spark plug to help us claw our way back into the game in the fourth quarter."

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Case Western 89, Adrian 61

CLEVELAND – Adrian College held a 35-34 advantage in bench points over CWRU and a 6-point advantage in fast break points.

As a team, the Bulldogs recorded 31 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 blocks and committed 9 steals.

TOP PERFORMERS

Kendall Belamy, 11 points.

De'Ovion Price 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist.

Rochester 68, Siena Heights 60

After back-and-forth action saw the game tied at 10-10 with 14 minutes left in the first half, the Saints (2-7) went on a 12-3 run over the next six minutes. The Warriors responded with a 9-2 run to pull back to within 2 points, when Siena Heights finished off the half on a 7-3 run to sit with a 31-25 halftime lead.

Six second-half turnovers by the Saints aided in the Warriors comeback. Rochester took a brief lead four minutes into the second half at 36-35 before SHU had another run of 12-7 to hold the lead at 47-43 with eight and a half minutes left. Rochester made a 15-6 run over the next four minutes to build their own 5-point lead. The Saints battled back but would pull no closer than 3 points the rest of the way.

Adrian completed a weekend sweep, building a 4-0 lead in the first two periods.

Milwaukee School of Engineering was outshot 49-24 and Adrian never trailed.

Siena Heights wins two

GRAND RAPIDS – Siena Heights picked up its first dual meet wins of the season on the second day of the Blithe Duals at Cornerstone University on Saturday.

The Saints (2-3) lost their first dual 51-5 to UW-Eau Claire, but then rebounded with a 33-15 win against St. Ambrose University.

Siena Heights closed out the tournament with a 43-9 win against Defiance College.

THE COACH SAID

Siena Heights coach Derrik Marry: "The guys responded well to the challenges that two-day tournaments pose. We won close individual matches on Saturday by staying tough in difficult situations. That's the difference in winning and losing team duals – one or two matches. They did what it takes to turn things around from our performance during day 1."

UP NEXT

Siena Heights hosts Adrian College in the battle for the Maple City Cup at 3 p.m. Dec. 11. The women’s teams also will compete. There will be a meet-and-greet with alumni and program supporters at 1:30 p.m. in the SHU Fieldhouse.

WOMEN’S WRESTLING

Saints go 3-2

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Siena Heights Women's wrestling team went 3-2 at the Patriot Duals Saturday at the University of the Cumberlands.

In the opening dual of the day, the Saints lost to NCAA No. 19 Emmanuel 27-16. Siena Heights rebounded to beat Brewton Parker Orange 35-10, and William Penn 34-10. The Saints also beat Montreat 39-10.

In the final dual of the weekend, Siena Heights lost to Campbellsville Black 25-23.

The Saints were 5-4 in the tournament and are 9-4 overall.

THE COACH SAID

Siena Heights coach Dominic Adams: "Nine dual meets that include opponents ranked in the Top 25 and teams in our conference is a grueling task, but we must be able to perform better when we are mentally fatigued. We'll regroup and look to end on a positive note with our final two competitions heading into the winter break."
