The Siena Heights Men's Basketball Team came back from the brief Thanksgiving break with a win over Miami-Middletown 88-84 for their first home win of the season.

The Saints' bench came up big, scoring 45 of the Saints' 88 points. TJ Hallett set his career high in points, leading SHU with 22 off the bench. Landon Links added 12 points off the bench as well. Davin Walker chipped in 13 points and notched a double/double with 10 assists on the game. He also led the team with seven rebounds. Jonas Tester added 16 points for the Saints as well.

The Saints held a five point lead at the half, 33-28. They saw their lead jump to as high as 23 points with their success from behind the three point stripe in early in the second half. On the game SHU shot 59.1% from behind the three point stripe compared to Miami-Middletown hitting only 36.4% of their shots from three point land. Over the final 12 minutes, Miami Middletown scratched and clawed their way back into the game before twelve free throws down the stretch secured the win for the Saints.

The Saints return to action on Wednesday when they host Madonna at 8 pm.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Saints show balance

Siena Heights used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Governors State 59-49 Saturday.

The Saints saw eight of their nine players who saw the floor score between 5 and 12 points. Leading the way was Kayla Hinton who had a team high 12 points. Allye Minor, Peyton Banks and Olivia DeLong each chipped in 8 points with Sha'kyia Parker adding 7 points, Jillian Gelso adding 6 points, and E'Anna Won and Eva Alcock each tallying 5 points. Banks and Alcok led the way with 8 and 7 rebounds respectively, Minot had a team-high 5 assists with Won adding 5 steals.

The first quarter was a low scoring affair. Siena Heights jumped out to a 7-1 lead before a 6-0 run by the Jaguars tied the game up. Heading into the first quarter break, the Saints held a narrow 10-9 lead. The second quarter saw SHU pull away after falling behind 12-11, a 15-0 run over the next six minutes of play created a 14 point cushion, the lead was 13 points heading into halftime. Siena Heights extended the lead to 14 points at the end of the third quarter with Governors State fighting back in the fourth quarter, however, they were never able to pull back closer than a ten point margin.

"Today was a good show of our ability to have a very balanced scoring attack, it shows the strength of our team when we have the ability for everyone to step up and put points on the board," Siena Heights coach Sue Syljebeck said.

WOMEN'S HOCKEY

Adrian still perfect

The Adrian College NCAA team whipped Chatham University in a non-conference game to run its record to 9-0 Saturday.

Une Bjelland picked up a rebound shot from Jessica VonRuden to open the scoring. Shortly after, Reaghan Pietrowski received a pass from VonRuden and scored to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

Cheatham scored its lone goal in the final minute of the first period.

Karmen Anderson netted her team-high sixth goal of the season on assists from Tia Lascelle and Annika Hanson to push the Adrian lead to 3-1.

The Bulldogs added goals in the third period to lock up the victory. Lascelle picked up a goal on a deflection on a shot from Kathryn Truban. Later in the period, Lascelle netted another goal to lead 5-1 which was followed by another goal from Bjelland to make it 6-1.

Sophie Goldberg recorded 22 saves.

Adrian is off until Dec. 10 when it travels to Norwich University for a tournament with Norwich, Elmira, and Plattsburgh State.
