The Texas Tech baseball team got some good news Wednesday.

Hudson White was named to the 2022 Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American team, while sophomore Jace Jung was tabbed a 2022 Academic All-America® first-team honoree by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

White's honor continues the success under head coach Tim Tadlock as the Red Raiders have had a Freshman All-American by at least one publication in each of his 10 seasons at the helm.

White was one of the individuals that highlighted the annual Big 12 baseball awards for Texas Tech last month when he was honored as the league's freshman of the year. He became the sixth Texas Tech freshman to earn the honor and the third since 2017 joining Josh Jung (2017) and Gabe Holt (2018).

He was also one of seven unanimous selections for the Big 12 all-freshman team.

Don Williams: When terrific pitching isn't enough for Texas Tech baseball

White was one of six Red Raiders to make 58 or more starts during the 2022 season. He made 39 starts behind the plate and 19 at first base. He hit .260 for the season with six home runs, 11 doubles and 40 RBIs. White got off to a slow start but started to hit his stride during the final game of the Rice series on March 13 when he went 3-for-4 with two doubles. He finished the season with a .299 battings average over the final 45 games and was even more special in Big 12 play as he finished 24 league games with a .337 batting average.

Jung is one of six student-athletes to earn a repeat selection on the Academic All-America® Division I baseball teams, and one of just two that went back-to-back on the first team. Jung is the first Red Raider since 1995-96 to repeat as a first-team CoSIDA academic all-American when Clint Bryant earned the honors.

The announcement adds to Jung's already long résumé of honors.

Last week, Jung was named a second-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball News to add to his first-team All-Big 12 selection. He is currently one of 31 Golden Spikes semifinalists, an award that honors the top amateur baseball player in the country.

On May 12, Jung and Easton Murrell were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team and became eligible at that time to advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. All nominees must have had a 3.30 GPA or higher to go along with significant on-field contributions.
