COLLEGE SPORTS ROUNDUP: Williams, McCullar invited to NBA G League Elite Camp
Bryson Williams and Kevin McCullar may share the court again, in a different way.
The Texas Tech men's basketball players each received invitations to participate in the NBA G League Elite Camp set for May 16-17 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
The NBA G League announced a field of 44 prospects for the NBA Draft.
The 2022 NBA G League Elite Camp gives draft prospects an opportunity to display their skills in front of NBA and NBA G League scouts, coaches and front-office executives which includes playing in five-on-five games and participating in strength and agility drills.
Based on performance, select players from the NBA G League Elite Camp will be invited to participate in Microsoft Surface NBA Draft Combine 2022, which will be held May 18-22 at Wintrust Arena.
Williams is coming off a super-senior season at Tech in which he led the Red Raiders with 14.1 points per game and earned All-Big 12 first team honors. He finished his collegiate career with 2,149 career points after scoring in double figures in 29 games last season, including a season-high 33 points at Kansas and finishing the year with a team-best 21 points against Duke in the Sweet 16.
McCullar earned All-Big 12 honorable mention for the second straight season after averaging 10.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game last season. A junior from San Antonio, McCullar played three seasons at Tech where he compiled 676 points, 351 rebounds, 151 assists and 110 steals in 78 games played. He announced his intentions to transfer if he removes his name from the NBA Draft. The two transfer destinations would be Big 12 rival Kansas or Gonzaga of the West Coast Conference.

The Texas Tech track and field program remains in the top 10 in the latest installment of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll released Monday afternoon.
The women’s team fell one spot to No. 6, while the men’s side dropped one spot to No. 9. Tech did not compete this past weekend as it prepares to host the 2022 Big 12 Outdoor Championships Friday through Sunday at the Terry and Linda Fuller Track Complex.
It will be the first time since 2014 that the Red Raiders host the conference meet.
Wayland Baptist University baseball
Dawin Santos, Jake Green, Arturo Disla and Jose Suero were named to the 2021-22 All-Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Team. Santos was voted to the first team while Green, Disla and Suero all made the second team.
The 6-foot-6, 285-pound Santos, a native of Santos Domingo, Dominican Republic, led the Pioneers with a .407 batting average, .821 slugging percentage (3rd in the SAC, 12th in the NAIA) and 63 RBIs. Santos, who played four years at Wayland after transferring from Luna Community College (N.M.), was a two-time SAC Player of the Week and was named NAIA Player of the Week after hitting five homers and 13 RBIs in five games. He tied a program record with three homers in a single game, and his 43 career homers are tied for fourth.
Green, Wayland’s junior catcher/designated hitter from Sachse, was honored on the second team for the second straight year. The SAC Gold Glove catcher last season, Green — the only Pioneer to appear in all 52 games — led Wayland with 72 hits, tied for the lead with 16 doubles, and was second with a .402 batting average.
In his first year at Wayland after transferring from Southeastern Community College (Iowa), Disla was third on the team with a .380 batting average while tying for the team lead with 17 homers. In 51 starts, the freshman third base from La Vega, Dominican Republic, ended with 51 RBIs, which is second on the team, 12 doubles and scored 41 runs.
Suero, Wayland’s hard-throwing closer from El Castillo La Isabelle, Dominican Republic, ended the season with 11 saves, which was first in the SAC, second in the NAIA and tied the school record first set by Michael Rose in 1994. (Rose also owns the career record for saves with 13.). In his second season after transferring from Ranger Junior College, Suero also logged a 2-1 record and led the team with a 1.27 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 24 1/3 innings over 22 appearances.
