College volleyball: Concordia St. Paul advances to Final Four
Concordia St. Paul’s volleyball team has advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four.
The Golden Bears, the top seed in their region, swept eighth seed Southern New Hampshire late Thursday in Seattle, 25-19, 25-23, 25-11, late Thursday keep alive their quest for a 10th national championship.
Concordia (30-5) will meet No. 4 seed Cal State Los Angeles (25-6) on Friday (Dec. 2) at 8:30 p.m. Central Standard Time at Royal Brougham Pavilion on the campus of Seattle Pacific. The winner will secure a spot in Saturday’s championship match at 5 p.m. CST.
Katie Mattson paced the Golden Bears with 14 kills and six blocks while hitting .458 against Southern New Hampshire (19-8). Teagan Starkey finished the night with 42 assists, while Ellie Sieling led all players with 11 digs.
Jasmine Mulvihill added 10 kills, eight digs and three blocks, and Emma Schmidt had nine kills and five digs. Payton Stier had three of Concordia’s five service aces.
The Golden Bears improved to 77-9 in NCAA tournament matches, including a mark of 11-1 in national quarterfinal contests. In total, the Golden Bears have won 30 of their 32 matches in the Elite Eight field, winning their last 28 in a row dating back to 2006.
