College Volleyball: Ridgewater Warriors play tough at St. Cloud

Sep. 16—ST. CLOUD — The Ridgewater College volleyball team ran into one of the top squads in the MCAC on Wednesday night and almost came away with a victory.

St. Cloud Technical & Community College Cyclones beat Ridgewater, 3-2 at the Whitney Community Center.

The scores were 25-22, 12-25, 16-25, 25-21, 15-11.

"The team put in work during practice this week leading up to this game against a tough SCTCC," Ridgewater head coach Amanda Bohlsen said. "I couldn't be more proud of the connection and rhythm they worked through to make their game play flow.

"We look forward to fine-tuning and coming back better each game."

The Cyclones are 5-0 in their division of the MCAC and 6-1 overall. Ridgewagter fell to 3-4 overall.

The Warriors had a balanced attack that featured 12 kills apiece from Harley Kunstleben and Sienna Olson and 11 kills from Morgan Mandel. Kunstleben is a right-side hitter from Paynesville. Olson is a middle hitter from Red Lake Falls and Mandel is a middle hitter from Annandale.

Madison Leyendecker had 23 set assists, six kills and eight digs for Ridgewater. Tayler Schmidt added 18 digs. Leyendecker is a setter from Paynesville. Schmidt is a defensive specialist from Paynesville.

Ridgewater next plays Western Technical College of La Crosse, Wisconsin, at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Ridgewater. The Warriors are then host to Century College of White Bear Lake at noon Saturday.
