College volleyball roundup: EOU sweeps Walla Walla

Oct. 17—WALLA WALLA, Washington — The Eastern Oregon University volleyball team cruised to a victory on Saturday, Oct. 16, beating Walla Walla in three straight sets.

The Mountaineers won the match 25-11, 25-14 and 25-14.

The victory over Walla Walla is the 13th sweep of the season for Eastern, improving the team's record to 18-5 on the year and 13-2 in conference play.

The Mountaineers dominated offensively, recording 34 kills to Walla Walla's 14. Eastern was down 13-10 at one point in the second set, but an 11-0 run turned the frame in favor of the Mountaineers. In the first and third sets, the Mountaineers controlled the lead throughout play.

Jet Taylor had a strong outing, recording a match-high nine kills and a team-high three blocks. Alexis McMurtrey was efficient on the back line, recording five aces and 20 assists.

Up next, the Mountaineers will return to La Grande after four straight road games. Eastern will host five consecutive home games, the first of which is against the College of Idaho on Oct. 19.
