College World Series: Time set for Tennessee-Virginia game

No. 3 national seed Tennessee will open play against Virginia in the 2021 College World Series Sunday afternoon.

Tennessee will play Virginia at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska.

First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. EDT. ESPN2 will televise the contest.

The Vols (50-16) enters the contest against Virginia (35-25) with a five-game winning streak.

Tennessee is undefeated in the NCAA Tournament. The Vols defeated Wright State and Liberty twice in the Knoxville Regional.

Tennessee defeated Southeastern Conference rival LSU twice in the Knoxville Super Regional to punch its ticket to the College World Series.

The Cavaliers are 6-0 in elimination games during the NCAA Tournament. Virginia clinched its berth in the College World Series with a 5-2 victory over Dallas Baptist Monday in the Columbia Super Regional at Founders Park in South Carolina.

The Vols and Cavaliers are both making their fifth appearance in the College World Series. Virginia last appeared in the College World Series during the 2015 season when they won the national championship.

The Vols made their last trip to Omaha in 2005.

Sunday’s game will represent the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
