College wrestling: Cole Holien paces Ridgewater at DWU Open

Nov. 14—MITCHELL, S.D. — Freshman Cole Holien led the Ridgewater wrestling team's efforts at the Dakota Wesleyan Open on Saturday.

Holien, an Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City alum, placed fourth after going 4-2 with one fall at 141 pounds.

Cole's brother, Brady, went 3-2 with a pair of falls at 149. Austin Schlangen also went 3-2 for the Warriors at 285. Schlangen is an Eden Valley-Watkins alum. Rick Jones (Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg) and Johan Rodvik (Maple Grove) each won by fall at 197.

Other area wrestlers at the Dakota Wesleyan Open:

* Augustana freshman Coy Gunderson (KMS) placed second at 165 after going 4-1. He lost to St. Cloud State's Anthony Herrera in a 4-1 decision in the championship match.

* St. Cloud State redshirt freshman Tyson Meyer (Minnewaska) went 3-2 at 184.

* Minnesota State-Moorhead freshman Jonas Anez (Willmar) went 2-2 at 165.

* Minnesota West freshman Joe Kallevig (Willmar) was 1-2 at 165.

* Southwest Minnesota State redshirt freshman Hayden Straumann (ACGC) was 0-2 at 141.

Ridgewater returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the Augsburg Invitational.
