How Much Harvard and 100 Other Colleges Will Charge for Tuition This Fall

How Much Harvard and 100 Other Colleges Will Charge for Tuition This Fall

The coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc with nearly every facet of American life. Schooling has not escaped the destruction, as colleges and universities across the nation disbanded in-class instruction. Many students and parents are no doubt wondering, therefore, how an institution like Harvard can still charge $51,904 for tuition.

The truth is that even though Harvard has gotten flak for holding the line on tuition, it’s far from alone. There are at least 15 institutions across America that are charging even more than Harvard. Tuition and fees for an out-of-state resident at the Boston College, for example, are a whopping $60,202. Other institutions are even going one step further. The University of Southern California announced it is actually raising tuition rates by 3.5%, whether or not it holds on-campus classes. Emerson College also announced a 2% increase in tuition and room and board rates.

Rising costs are not the only risk students will face during the upcoming academic year. The University of Central Florida, for example, has an enrollment approaching 70,000, yet it’s planning on all of those students returning to campus, even though the state is a hotbed for the coronavirus. However, tuition at UCF is the lowest on the list, at just $5,954 for state residents.

For the purposes of this study, GOBankingRates referenced data from U.S. News & World Report and the websites of individual schools to gather information such as school size and tuition rates. Data is presented in alphabetical order, by state.

Based on the results, parents and students alike can analyze whether the costs involved are worth the benefits. To weigh the risks involved, cross-reference this data with information on how each state plans to handle reopening schools.
