Collierville police: 3-year-old in critical condition after accidentally shooting himself

A 3-year-old is in critical condition after finding a gun inside a vehicle and accidentally shooting himself, according to the Collierville Police Department.

Collierville police responded to the area of Harbor Freight in the 700 block of West Poplar Avenue at about 4:08 p.m. Saturday due to a report of a possible gunshot injury.

Based on the police's initial investigation, a 3-year-old was able to locate a gun and accidentally shoot himself while other family members were in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

The child was transported to Le Bonheur's Children Hospital in Memphis.

The investigation remains ongoing, and Collierville police did not provide any further information in the release.
