Cologne forward Mark Uth has suffered another setback in the form of a knee injury, the Bundesliga club said on Sunday.

Cologne said that Uth sustained the injury in a friendly match against Rot-Weiss Essen the previous day and would be sidelined "for the time being."

Uth was sidelined for nine months until August and injured himself again soon after. He has only featured in seven league matches since October.

Saturday's game which ended 4-4 was the first for Cologne coach Timo Schultz, the successor of Steffen Baumgart who had to go shortly before Christmas with Cologne languishing in second last place.

Cologne start the second part of the season on Saturday against Heidenheim.
