The Columbia Civil Defense (Defensa Civil Colombia) assisted Honduran authorities in preparations for Hurricane Iota’s arrival by delivering humanitarian aid and carrying out evacuations on Saturday, November 14.
On Friday, Honduran officials warned about the possible damages of Iota, then a tropical depression, that was expected to become a category one hurricane by Sunday.
Local city halls carried out preventative evacuations near rivers, streams, and areas susceptible to landslides, according to the Honduran government.
The National Hurricane Center forecast Iota would make landfall in Honduras and Nicaragua on Monday as a category four hurricane.
