Colombia Surveys Flooding and Damaged Buildings in Wake of Hurricane Iota

Hurricane Iota left at least one person dead and serious damage to infrastructure as it hit the Colombian islands of San Andres and Providencia on November 16, local media reported.

The storm later reached Nicaragua as a Category 4 hurricane, a short distance from where Hurricane Eta landed earlier in November.

Though Hurricane Iota “rapidly” weakened overnight, the storm could still produce “catastrophic” flash flooding and mudslides across Central America, according to the National Hurricane Center.
