Colonie Police: Halfmoon man drove drunk, illegally possessed loaded handgun

May 3—COLONIE — A Halfmoon man drove drunk and illegally possessed a loaded handgun early Thursday morning, Colonie police said.

Brian F. Thompson, 41, of Halfmoon, was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, along with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.

Police spotted Thompson at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday on Central Avenue, near the Price Chopper and pulled him over for several vehicle and traffic violations, police said.

Thompson stopped and the officer determined him to be intoxicated and took him into custody, police said.

Further investigation then revealed a loaded .380 handgun in Thompson's glovebox. Thompson did not have a permit to possess the handgun, police said.

Thompson was arraigned and later released on bail. He is due back in court later.

The investigation remained active Tuesday. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 518-783-2754.
