Colorado man caught after high-speed chase through Prince George, Chesterfield counties

Virginia State Police captured a Colorado man Monday morning after he led troopers on a high-speed chase along Interstate 295 between Prince George and Chesterfield counties.

State Police Sgt. Jessica Shehan said in an email that the 55-year-old from Colorado Springs wound up crashing his vehicle on Meadowville Road after he had turned off the interstate onto state Route 10 and rammed two state-police patrol vehicles.

The incident began around 10 a.m. on I-295 about two miles south of the state Route 36 exit. Shehan said the driver of a 2010 Toyota Corolla was northbound and traveling at 90 mph, 20 mph higher than the posted speed limit. When a trooper attempted to pull the car over, Shehan said, the vehicle just sped up, at one point hitting 100 mph.

The driver took the westbound exit onto Route 10 with the trooper in pursuit. After a short distance, he turned onto Meadowville Road and plowed into the two state-police cars. At that point, the car went out of control and crashed, and the driver ran. He was caught a short time later without incident.

Shehan said the man was taken to John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell for treatment of minor injuries he suffered in the crash.

No state troopers were reported injured.

Charges are pending in the pursuit, and the incident remains under investigation.
