Colorado Shakespeare Festival Postpones 2020 Season

Colorado Shakespeare Festival is postponing its 2020 season, camps and educational programs amid the coronavirus pandemic, organizers announced Friday.

“This unprecedented decision is not one we came to lightly, and our top priority must continue to be the wellbeing of our patrons, company, staff and community,” Tim Orr, the festival's producing artistic director, said in a statement. “We’re confident that if we make this critical change now, we’ll be back together on the Rippon stage as soon as it is safe.”

Ticket holders can donate the value of their tickets, receive a credit on their CU Presents accounts for a future performance or receive a refund for the full face value of their tickets, organizers said.

The decision means 142 seasonal employees will not be able to work at the festival, including Tony-nominated and locally known actors, directors and production staff.

“Our intent is to produce this season in the same structure and format next year and bring everyone who was hired back for the 2021 season,” Orr said.

The festival draws around 30,000 people each season to its outdoor and indoor performances and educational programs, including Camp Shakespeare and Shakespeare’s Sprites.

“We are grateful to the numerous Colorado Shakespeare Festival company members, staff, partners and supporters for all that they contribute to the festival,” Orr said. “We plan to be back in 2021 with twice the glory we anticipated this season.”

Summer 2021 season tickets will be on sale beginning 10 a.m. Oct. 26. Single tickets will be on sale beginning 10 a.m. Nov. 30. Tickets are available for purchase here, over the phone at 303-492-8008 and at the CU Presents Box Office, which is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
