Colorado Springs weather: Temps shoot up to the 60s Wednesday, chances of snow the rest of the week

Mar. 15—Forecast temperatures are set to reach the high 60s today before snow and chilly temps roll back into Colorado Springs for the rest of the week.

Expect partly sunny skies today, with a high of 68 degrees. According to Jaclyn Ehr with the National Weather Service in Pueblo, Wednesday's high temps are 10 to 15 degrees above the state-average for March, which usually resides in the low 50s, increasing throughout the month.

The Colorado Springs area is experiencing near-critical fire danger conditions due to low relative humidity forecast for the afternoon and gusty west-southwest winds rolling over the plains.

Looking into Wednesday night, there's a 70% chance of precipitation, with less than an inch of accumulation expected. A mix of rain and snow is anticipated throughout the night. Otherwise, mostly cloudy skies are in the forecast with a low of 26 degrees.

Ehr said the cold front moving into Colorado Spring through Sunday will place temps 10 to 15 degrees below the seasonal average.

There's an 80% chance of snow in the forecast for Thursday, mainly before 3 p.m., with the possibility of 1 to 2 inches of new snow accumulation in Colorado Springs. The heaviest snow will fall south of the Pikes Peak region over the San Juan and Sangre de Cristo mountains with 1 to 3 feet of snow accumulation in the forecast for Thursday.

According to Ehr, the average monthly snowfall for March is 5.7 inches, making March the snowiest month in Colorado Springs. This year, the city has received only trace amounts recording at only 0.02 inches so far this month. Last year at this time, the city had received 2.5 inches of snow.
