Colorful days ahead: Plan your week ahead with WNC Parent – Oct. 14

Fall and Halloween events are filling the calendar these days. Make a plan (some require advance tickets) and get ready for a season to remember. The 10th Annual Haunted Trail and Glow Trail is Oct. 14 – 15, 21 – 23, and 27 – 30 at Adventure Center of Asheville. The trail includes 15 live-action outdoor scenes with lights and spooky sounds. It is a live theatrical experience on an outdoor trail without contact or gore. Geared towards families with children ages 3 – 12, visit the Alien Landing, Creepy Circus and Haunted Pumpkin Patch which are all a part of the trail. A “Sweet Peek Tour” is offered at 6:30 p.m. This is a guided tour for younger guests. The trail is actor free at this time and they can decide if they would like to re-enter the line and receive the full show. The Carolina Renaissance Festival continues Saturdays and Sundays through Nov. 20 in Huntersville, North Carolina. For a full schedule, driving directions, tickets and details, visit carolina.renfestinfo.com.

Artful Adventure is 2 – 2:45 p.m. Oct. 15 at Asheville Art Museum. Free for members or included with general admission. Registration is not required. Artful Adventures is a family-friendly, themed interactive gallery tour followed by an optional visit to Art PLAYce. Families of all ages and abilities are welcome. “A Wrinkle In Time” is presented by Tanglewood Youth Production Classes Oct. 15 – 16 at the Asheville Community Theatre Mainstage. Tickets are $5 each for ages 17 and younger and $12 each for adults and are available online at ashevilletheatre.org, by phone at 828-254-1320, or in person at the ACT Box Office.

New date – Asheville VeganFest is 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at Pack Square Park. The event includes children’s activities, face painting and more. It was rescheduled due to Hurricane Ian. For details, visit ashevilleveganfest.com.

A Community Simchat Torah Celebration is 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Asheville JCC. This collaborative event between the Asheville JCC, Congregation Beth Israel, Congregation Beth Ha'Tephila, the Jewish Secular Community of Asheville, and Carolina Jews for Justice is a community celebration of the Torah that includes workshops, refreshments, community candle lighting, a Torah tour, and the Torah chant. Featured topics of workshops are PJ Library, Jewish art, Synagogues, Midrash, and justice from a Jewish perspective. Register here.

2022 Pumpkin Fest at Silvermont Park in Brevard, North Carolina, benefitting the Friends of Silvermont, continues the last four weekends of October. The event includes a pumpkin trail, a white squirrel search and much more. For details, visit silvermont.org.

Join in a Tiny Art Show at the Leicester Library. Patrons ages 12 and older are invited to display their artistic talents. Pick up a mini art kit from the library, paint your canvas, and return it to the library by Nov. 5 to participate in the art show. Supplies are limited. Autumn Ambles are 4 – 5 p.m. every Wednesday and Saturday in October at the Highlands Botanical Garden. Explore with naturalists to discover what leaves are changing and the (science of) why. This program is weather-dependent. Visit highlandsbiological.org/nature-center.

Tweetsie’s Ghost Train Halloween Celebration continues every Friday and Saturday night through Oct. 29. The event includes dance parties, trick-or-treat stations, themed photo opportunities, and the all new Palace Spooktacular Show. For adults and older children, there is a scary night-time journey on the Ghost Train, walking through the Haunted House and more. NOCtoberfest is noon – 6 p.m. Oct. 22 at Nantahala Outdoor Center. The family-friendly event includes costume contests, paddling competitions, live music, giveaways and more. Visit noc.com/events.

The Trick or Trail 5K is Oct. 22 in the Historic 7th Avenue District of Hendersonville, North Carolina. For details and registration, visit idaph.net.

An Enchanted Forest is 6 – 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Highlands Nature Center. Go trick-or-treating through the forest trails in the Highlands Botanical Garden. A bonfire, hot drinks, and candy will be waiting at the end. Those wishing to participate in this free event should meet in the amphitheater behind the Highlands Nature Center (930 Horse Cove Road).
