INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts have set their schedule for their spring and summer workouts under new head coach Shane Steichen, taking full advantage of the extra week afforded to teams who just hired a head coach.

Indianapolis is scheduled to begin its offseason program April 10, one of two teams, along with Carolina, leading the way with the earliest reporting date.

The other three teams with new head coaches — Denver, Arizona and Houston — get started a day later on April 11. Every other NFL team but one, Philadelphia, opens their offseason programs on April 17, a week after Indianapolis; the Eagles will not start their offseason program until April 24.

The Colts also get one more benefit by hiring a new head coach.

Indianapolis, along with the other four teams that hired new head coaches, is holding a voluntary veteran’s minicamp April 24-26, the same week as the NFL Draft.

The rest of the Colts’ offseason schedule is in line with the rest of the NFL. Under the league’s collective bargaining agreement, nearly all of the offseason program is voluntary; the mandatory minicamp, which runs June 13-15 in Indianapolis, is the only mandatory portion of the schedule for players.

Indianapolis will also hold a rookie minicamp one of the two weekends immediately following the draft; a date for the rookie minicamp hasn’t been set officially yet.
