The Indianapolis Colts got their new quarterback by trading a pair of draft picks to the Philadelphia Eagles for Carson Wentz, who will now have to prove himself to his new team.

One of the players to immediately reach out to Wentz after the news dropped was cornerback Kenny Moore to welcome his new quarterback to the team. In an interview with USA TODAY’s Mackenzie Salmon, Moore talked about his reaction to the big news.

“My initial reaction was just like, I mean, he’s family now,” Moore said. “So I just wanted to do my best to welcome him with open arms to just let him know that I’m leading with him.”

Wentz has a lot to prove when he arrives to Indy. The Colts were a playoff team with Philip Rivers and now are hoping to correct Wentz’s issues enough to compete for a spot.

But Moore, as one of the unquestioned leaders on the team, believes Wentz what it takes to lead the Colts offense to back to the playoffs.

“I’m excited to see Carson Wentz’s career flourish and get back into those MVP talks,” Moore said.

Alluding to Wentz’s 2017 season when he was a front-runner for the MVP award before a torn ACL ended his season, the ultimate goal is to get the 28-year-old back to that form—even if that might be a bit unrealistic.

The Colts have a lot of work to do to get Wentz to the form they need for him to help them be a perennial playoff team, but he has the support of Moore, who is one of the young leaders in the organization.
