Colts take QB Will Levis in Peter King’s only mock draft
You’re tired of reading about mock drafts and we’re tired of writing about them, but the show goes on, and the Indianapolis Colts have a crucial selection in the 2023 NFL draft.
What the Colts will do remains a major mystery. Despite rumors, reports and opinions from outside the team’s facility, the Colts have kept their plans locked down. Only Nic Cage could devise a plan worthy of getting that information out of Chris Ballard. But I digress.

With just three days left until the offseason’s big event, Peter King released his only mock draft of the first round. In it, three quarterbacks go in the first four picks, which includes the Houston Texans passing on a prospect at that position.
4. INDIANAPOLIS: Will Levis, quarterback, Kentucky.
I don’t believe the Colts will trade to two, so let’s put a kibosh on that. This one has risen up over the last week or so, and I’ve heard so much here that I’m not sure at all what to believe. Seems way too high for Levis, and I will not be stunned if Roger Goodell announces Anthony Richardson here. Levis’ IQ and football IQ are both strong, and that appeals to the Colts. He’s a favorite of the Mannings, and that appeals to the Colts (though an overrated factor in the public’s mind). And the Colts, it seems, have to pick Levis or Richardson to get off the quarterback-a-year merry-go-round. It wouldn’t surprise me if coach Shane Steichen leaned Richardson and used Gardner Minshew or Nick Foles as the 2023 interim while getting Richardson ready for 2024. This will be an interesting pivot point of the draft, and Levis going here would leave Seattle and Detroit smiling widely at picks five and six.
The fact that King says the pick could easily be Anthony Richardson as well goes to show how well the Colts have kept their plan in-house. Levis also is the favorite to be the No. 2 overall pick.
From a national media perspective, Levis has been the favorite selection for the Colts. All of the reports, rumors and buzz have linked Levis to the Colts as a good fit. But none of that has come from inside the building. It’s all the opinions of coaches, general managers and anonymous scouts.
Regardless, Levis is likely on the Colts’ board at some point in the first round. Whether that’s in consideration for the No. 4 pick is a mystery. The same can be said for Richardson. We truly don’t know which prospect they would prefer.
Levis would certainly bring a level of optimism due to his toughness, leadership and big arm. But there are equal parts concern over his advanced age, turnover rate, sack rate and inconsistent accuracy.
At this point, we just want the draft to get here.
