Columbia Lions Club to celebrate Fourth of July with parade

Jul. 2—COLUMBIA — A staple in the Town of Columbia returns this year with the Columbia Lions Club's Fourth of July Parade on Monday.

The parade begins at 10 a. m. The parade route starts at Horace W. Porter School and extends to Lake Road.

Many different groups will march in the parade, including local scouts, the Lebanon Town Militia, members of the Columbia Board of Selectmen and the Clan Ross Pipe Band.

Jim Blair, the Columbia Leo Club advisor and a member of the Columbia Lions Club, noted the parade is a piece of small town Americana.

The theme of this year's parade is helping one another. The theme was submitted by Columbia resident Cailyn Smith a few years ago.

When the Columbia Lions Club was looking at suggestions of themes from past years, they discovered Smith's recommendation. The club felt Smith's suggestion was a good fit for this year's theme.

" I think that is appropriate at any day and age," Blair said regarding the theme of this year's parade.

Blair added that Columbia residents help each other in their time of need, which fits with the theme of this year's parade.

" We all live in our houses and do our own thing, but when we set our minds to it or there's something that has to be done, we all help one another and we get it done," Blair said.
