Columbia man arrested on suspicion of murder after body found at residence on High Quest Drive

A Columbia man was arrested in connection to a suspicious death after a female victim was found Monday inside a home on High Quest Drive, the Columbia Police Department reported.

Officers were called to the north-central residence around 3:40 p.m. Monday in reference to a report of a missing person at risk. Officers found the body of the victim concealed in a closet, as well as evidence she had been restrained and had suffered severe blunt force trauma to the head, the police said.

Adam A. Conner, 37, was arrested without incident for second-degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence, according to the department.

Authorities have not yet been able to make a positive ID of the victim due to the severity of the injuries.

"We know who lives in the residence and believe we have a good idea of who the victim is," Sgt. Neal Sedgwick said Tuesday morning. "But until we can obtain more definitive information we are not able to release a name. For now, the female victim will be referred to as Jane Doe.

"Thanks to the tireless work of our officers, detectives and crime scene investigators, we were able to quickly identify a suspect in this case."

Sedgwick thanked community members for coming forward with information related to the case.

The police are working with the medical examiner's office and the prosecutor's office amid an ongoing investigation, the department said.

The residence, located in 1700 block of High Quest Drive, is just east of Rangeline Street, south of Brown School Road and north of Smiley Lane, near Lange Middle School.
