Burgers are one of America’s food staples, despite the sandwich dating back to the 12th century in Hamburg, Germany, according to the History Channel.

No matter the origin, whether the patty is made of beef or tofu, it is impossible to not see someone in the summertime enjoying a version of a burger.

So, it's no surprise that there's a week devoted to such popular fare.

In partnership with the Ohio Beef Council, this year’s Columbus Burger Week will take place July 11-17. From gourmet offerings and beer pairings, 12 restaurants will be paying tribute to America’s sweetheart: the burger.

All restaurants will be selling their creations for $6 or $7.

“We are excited to present Columbus Burger Week this summer with many old favorites and new first-year participants as well," organizer Tony Frank said. "We’ve made it easier to navigate the week with a custom app that will reward consumers throughout the entire week. Burger Week will once again lift the community up with a week of culinary tourism across the city."

Columbus Burger Week 2022: App lets hamburger aficionados find restaurants, deals

New this year, there is an official Columbus Burger Week app — available for free on both Apple and Android devices — where you'll find the list of participating restaurants, their specials, operating hours, a map and everything needed to plan the burger journey for the week, right in the palm of your hand.

This event is for all ages; however, some locations may be restricted to participants 21 and older.

The app can act as a pseudo-passport for diners to check in at participating locations throughout the week, earning points for prizes and toward the coveted status of Columbus Burger Week royalty. Check in at three participating locations and be eligible for a grand-prize drawing featuring $250 in gift cards and an ultimate grill-out, courtesy of the Ohio Beef Council.

In real time, users will be able to see what percentile they fall under for points among other Burger Week participants. They will also be able to find gluten-free and vegetarian options through the app as well.

“I never wanted an app just to have (an app)," chief organizer Tony Frank said. “I wanted it to do something and have a purpose.”

The app will also be a way for restaurants to communicate with consumers, allowing them   to advise if a location is out of a specialty burger.
