The Columbus Dispatch is moving its editorial department from Capitol Square to the Brewery District, where it will join other Dispatch departments.

“This move will bring the Dispatch staff together in one location so we can work more effectively as a team serving the community,” said Edwina Blackwell Clark, executive editor of The Dispatch.

“Reporting on stories that matter and providing a forum for diverse community voices continues to be our sharp focus as the largest newsgathering organization serving central Ohio.’’

The editorial staff will join advertising, marketing, and USA Today Network Ventures at 605 S. Front St. Blackwell Clark expects the move to be completed by the end of June.

A buyer has been found for the current Dispatch editorial building at 62 E. Broad St.

Matt Gregory, senior vice president with NAI Ohio Equities commercial real-estate firm, confirmed that the property is in contract, but said he could not disclose the buyer or the price.

"The buyer is conducting due diligence now," said Gregory.

NAI Ohio Equities and another real-estate firm, BellCornerstone, listed the building in March 2022 for $2.15 million. The property was most recently listed for $1.6 million.

The 29,148-square-foot, five-story building dates to 1920. The building has housed The Dispatch editorial staff since 2016, a year after the Wolfe family sold the newspaper to GateHouse Media, which later merged with Gannett.

The building is part of a trio of small, century-old buildings overlooking the north side of the Statehouse. The other two have also recently changed hands. The Center for Christian Virtue bought the building immediately to the west, at 60 E. Broad St., in 2021, while Zion Christian Fellowship acquired the building immediately to the east, 64-70 E. Broad St., in 2018.

A Wolfe family entity continues to own the former Dispatch building at 34 S. Third St., which houses the iconic Dispatch sign.
