Columbus man charged with involuntary manslaughter in death of man found bleeding at bus stop

Columbus police homicide detectives announced Wednesday that they have arrested a suspect wanted in connection with the death of a man who was found bleeding from his head in late March at a South Side bus stop.

Joshua C. Hunt, 35, of Columbus, is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of 61-year-old Dwayne Dowdell. A warrant for Hunt's arrest was issued on April 22, and he was arrested Wednesday by Columbus police patrol officers, police said in a news release.

According to an affidavit filed by police, Dowdell was standing March 29 at a COTA bus stop at the corner of East Whittier Street and Parsons Avenue when Hunt walked up to him and struck him in the chest. Dowdell fell backward into the roadway and struck the back of his head.

When police responded minutes later to a 911 call, they found Dowdell lying in the street and bleeding from the head.

Medics arrived and transported Dowdell in critical condition to Ohio Health Grant Medical Center, where he died of his injuries on March 30.

The affidavit does not say why Hunt assaulted Dowdell. Franklin County court records do not show Hunt's next court appearance.
