The Columbus man charged with murder in an apparent road rage shooting May 17 on Interstate 76 in Norton was ordered held without bond Saturday in Barberton Municipal Court.

The arraignment took place in the court of Judge Todd McKenney. Dacarrei Tovon Kinard, the man charged in the apparent road rage shooting death of Akron resident George Jensen, appeared on video from Summit County Jail.

At the arraignment, a public defender argued that bond should be considered because Kinard was gainfully employed and the father of two children.

Barberton Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer Roberts said Kinard, however, had demonstrated "absolute disregard for human life."

A bond hearing with evidence will take place Tuesday in the court.

If convicted in the death of 40-year-old Jensen, Kinard could be sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

The Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team and Columbus police SWAT arrested Kinard on Wednesday after Norton police issued a warrant.

A Norton police affidavit filed with the court states a black Camaro that witnesses said was driven by the shooter exited I-76 eastbound at Barber Road and turned north, where Kinard's license plate was spotted by an electronic license plate reader.

The Camaro then entered I-76 westbound and passed the scene.

A search warrant for Kinard's phone records "confirmed the device linked to the phone number Kinard listed with the BMV was present at the scene" and traveled from Columbus to Norton and back. The affidavit mentions video gathered from the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Fred Martin Superstore, a car dealership on Barber Road.

Police recovered eight shell casings, which the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation linked to an April 13 Columbus shooting.

In that incident, shots were seen coming from a black Camaro. Two shell casings that were recovered by the Columbus Police Department have been confirmed to have been shot by the same weapon involved in the Norton incident, the agency said.

Jensen was described by friends and family as a passionate opponent of gun violence.

He worked as an IT professional, most recently as a senior systems engineer at ECS Tuning in Wadsworth. A memorial service was held May 26 at the Bethany United Church of Christ in Cuyahoga Falls.
