If you live around old Cooper Stadium, be prepared to hear Columbus police testing its gunfire detection systems later this week.

Columbus police, in partnership with the California-based public safety technology contractor SoundThinking, will test ShotSpotter systems on Wednesday and Thursday from 12 to 4 p.m. each day.

Residents and businesses in the area "should anticipate multiple caliber gunshots being fired" during that time, Columbus police said in a press release.

ShotSpotter technology uses acoustic sensors to detect gunfire. Columbus police use the system in five neighborhoods around the city.

Testing will take place in a "secure and safe environment that is away from the public," the department said.

Residents with concerns can call the Columbus police non-emergency line at 614-645-4545.
