Columbus Symphony secures notable guest artists for its 2023-24 Masterworks season

The Columbus Symphony has announced its 2023-24 Masterworks season.
Composers from diverse backgrounds and much-anticipated guest artists distinguish the season ahead.
“The upcoming season is going to feature a very, very large number of artists that we have been looking so much forward to collaborating with,” said music director Rossen Milanov.
Among the notable names to collaborate with the symphony will be:
Oct. 13-14, guitarist Jason Vieaux, performing Avner Dorman’s “How to Love”
Jan. 19-20, 2024: string trio Time for Three, performing Kevin Puts’ “Contact”
Feb. 3-4, 2024: saxophonist Steven Banks, performing Henri Tomasi’s “Concerto pour saxophone alto et orchestra”
Feb. 23-24, 2024: pianist Claire Huangci, performing Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 1”
Mach 22-23, 2024: violinist Elina Vahala, performing Jean Sibelius’ “Violin Concerto”
April 5-6, 2024: pianist Sara Davis Buechner, performing Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 1”
May 17-18, 2024: cellist Thomas Mesa, performing Jessie Montgomery’s “Divided” and Tchaikovsky’s “Variations on a Rococo Theme”
Arts: CATCO theater company announces name change, eclectic new season
Tapping talent closer to home, the Columbus Symphony Women’s Chorus will be heard during the season opener, featuring Gustav Holst’s “The Planets,” on Sept. 22 and 24. The chorus—whose new conductor has been chosen but has not yet been announced publicly, Milanov said—will also be heard during a concert on Nov. 17-18, with Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 6,” and during the season finale on May 24-25, 2024, a program consisting of Mozart’s “Mass in C Minor.”
Columbus Symphony concertmaster Joanna Frankel will be center stage to perform Sergei Prokofiev’s “Violin Concerto No. 2” on April 19-20, 2024; and Russian-American pianist Natasha Paremski — a much-admired past guest artist — will be featured on May 3-4.
Children between the ages of 6 and 16 will be admitted free of charge when joined by a ticket-buying adult, the symphony said.
