Columbus Zoo closing this weekend due to winter weather, snow
As wintry weather is set to hit the Columbus area during the upcoming holiday weekend, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium will close its doors.
The zoo announced on its social media pages Wednesday that it will be closed Friday and Saturday. In addition, the zoo already had planned to be closed Sunday in observance of Christmas Day. Doors will be reopened Monday.
Due to severe weather expected in our region which will bring below freezing temperatures with wind and snow, the Zoo will close Friday, Dec. 23 and Saturday, Dec. 24. Franklin and Delaware counties, as well as surrounding counties, are under a Winter Storm Warning from 7 p.m. Thursday until 5 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. A combination of snow, blowing snow and wind is possible, and total snow accumulations of 1-3 inches are possible. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph.
Greater Columbus is also under a windchill warning from 1 a.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday, as windchills can get as low as minus 35 degrees.
