Jan. 13—Playing their first games of 2022, the Comanche Indians' basketball team finished off the Lindsay Tournament with a third place victory after beating Pauls Valley 46-44 this past Saturday.
Despite the first half struggles, the Indians pulled out the victory in the second half and start 2022 with a record of 2-1. As a result, they received the Xpress Wellness Team of the Week award.
Myles and Landon Ellis were the only two players to score points in the first quarter as Pauls Valley jumped to a 15-3 lead at the end of the first period.
Cason Morris helped Comanche get back into the game with five of the nine second quarter points. Then, Corbin Bowen and Jeremy Crisp scored a bucket apiece. The Panthers led 23-12 at half.
Two three buckets from Mason Kulbeth and Myles Ellis in the third quarter helped keep the game close with the Indians having their best minutes in the fourth and final period.
Comanche's offense was fueled by three buckets galore as Landon and Myles Ellis hit three buckets apiece from beyond the arc to have 18 of the 27 points in the quarter.
Landon Ellis also added two buckets from the field as he had 13 total points in the fourth quarter while his brother, Myles Ellis, had 10 with other buckets coming from Kulbeth and Dillon Ellis.
The defense also came up with a big change as they held Pauls Valley to 13 fourth quarter points with Dillon Ellis' bucket giving the Indians the victory over the Panthers.
Two players were in double figures as Landon Ellis had 16 points in the game while Myles Ellis had 15 points with the rest of the points spread out between four other players.
Comanche was set to host Byng this past Tuesday, however COVID-19 within Byng canceled the game and the Indians will now only have one game this week.
The Indians will travel to Dickson to finish out the week before the Stephens County Tournament with their game taking place at 8 p.m. Jan. 14 at Dickson High School.
