Comanche Softball closing in on district title

Sep. 10—The Comanche Lady Indians are closing in on a repeat district championship after two big wins this past Thursday on the road against Marietta.

Game one saw them beat Marietta 16-0. In the second game, the Lady Demons won 12-0 to put their district record at a perfect 9-0 with a chance to clinch the district title next week against Kingston and Lindsay.

Several players contributed to the success in game one that saw the final three innings with the biggest offensive output with five in the top of the fifth, two in the top of the sixth and seven in the top of the seventh.

Leading 2-0 going into the top of the fifth, the Lady Indians got a single from Bre Gill to drive in the first of five runs in the inning and put Comanche up 3-0.

The last four runs came on two outs as Josey Harris helped her own cause in the circle by hitting a single through the left side to drive in two runs and put them up 5-0.

Kamrey Rendon drove in the final two runs of the inning as she hit a double to left field to drive in two herself to make it 7-0 after five innings of play.

One double in the top of the sixth drew in the runs for the offense as senior Gracee Miller hit a fly ball to left field to drive in two to take a commanding 9-0 lead over Marietta.

A sacrifice fly started the seven-run top of the seventh as Ayli Minor flew out to left field with Harris tagging up to make it 10-0 in favor of Comanche.

Mykayla Slovak drove in the next two on a line drive to centerfield to make it 12-0 in favor of the Lady Indians in the first game of two.

The next two runs came in on a passed ball and an error to put Comanche up 14-0 with two singles driving in the final runs of the game as Jentry Whaley and Jaelyn Reed drove in one apiece.

With the lead at 16-0, Harris finished the game with two ground outs and a strikeout to finish the victory with only two hits given up and striking out 11 during the victory.

Game two saw two big innings and a big pitching performance from Rendon, who was in the circle and threw a no-hitter to secure the victory.

The bottom of the first saw five runs come in while the bottom of the third saw seven runs come in during the 12-0 victory.

Miller had the most RBIs with three on the game while Harris had two and three other players drove in one during the victory.

Rendon went all four innings in the circle only allowing one runner on an error. She finished the game with three strikeouts and helped keep Comanche with the second district victory of the night.

Comanche will have back-to-back home games next week with each game proving as a pivotal point of clinching the district title.

At 5 p.m. Sept. 12, the Lady Indians host Kingston, a team they beat 5-4 earlier in the season. They could pin them with their fourth district loss of the season.

On the next day at 5 p.m. Sept. 13, the Lady Indians host second place Lindsay.

A victory in both games will secure the district title as no other teams will be able to catch Comanche in the standings.
