Comcast RISE small business grant applications to launch applications June 1

Comcast is set to launch another round of small business grant applications for five metropolitan areas — and metro Detroit is one of them.

The company's entrepreneurship program is called Comcast RISE, which was created in 2020 to assist small business owners that were affected by the pandemic. RISE stands for representation, investment, strength and empowerment.

"As small businesses transition from pandemic recovery to focus on expansion and growth, we want to continue our efforts to positively impact the communities where we operate, and help an even broader range of small businesses, while continuing to focus on diversity, inclusion and community investment," said Shannon Dulin, director of community impact at Comcast.

The winning small business owners will receive a cash grant of $5,000, along with business consultancy services, educational resources, production of a 30-second TV commercial, a media strategy consultation, a media placement schedule and free technology makeover from Comcast, according to a news release.

Business owners in Wayne, Washtenaw, Macomb and Oakland counties are eligible to apply. The other metro areas that are eligible for grants include Baltimore, Memphis, Tennessee, Philadelphia and Portland, Oregon.

There will be 100 grants distributed in each region, totaling 500 grants.

The program is part of a Comcast initiative called Project UP, which aims to advance digital equity. Overall, the entrepreneurship program has assisted 13,000 business owners in the country. Metro Detroit-based businesses such as Foundation Management, an artist and event management company, and Pietrzyk Foods, a company that sells pierogis and other Polish foods, won grants from the program last year.
