MASSILLON – A former schoolteacher turned comedian is looking forward to tickling the town's "funny Bohn" on Friday evening.

Comedian Lucas Bohn called his professional turnaround years ago the "most terrifying time" of his life, as he made the move from a steady elementary teaching position to full-time humor.

"I was scared. I was giving up a salary, healthcare and retirement," said Bohn, 40, whose hometown is Mathews, Virginia. "I talked it over with my wife (Kristina), and she was so supportive. She said, 'Go for it.'"

Susan Stuck, executive director of the Lions theater, said Bohm performed in Massillon about three years ago, and it was an easy decision to invite him back.

"(Lucas) has good, clean comedy and a lot of humor from his life story," Stuck said. "We're glad he's coming back again."

Bohn's act is titled "Lesson Plans at Night." It's a mix of his personal experiences presented in a multimedia format, mainly influenced by his comedy and teaching tenures.

Altogether, Bohn has worked professionally as a comedian for 13 years. He spent six years as a school teacher.

Over the years, Bohn said, he's shared the same stage with national performers like Dave Chappelle, Jimmy Fallon and Kevin Hart.

Comedy bug came early in life for Lucas Bohn

The comedy bug bit Bohn when he was a youth. He said he would often check out comedy video cassette tapes from a local library and spend hours listening to them.

While in the seventh grade, Bohn recalled his grandparents taking him on a cruise ship for the first time, and he entered a talent show.

"I told about 10 minutes of jokes, and it was a huge hit," Bohn said. "I loved the feeling of people laughing at me."

Getting up on stage has always come natural, Bohn said.

"A lot of people worry about looking silly in front of friends or family," he said. "I’ve never had that problem."

He added, "I know 90% of the time I look like an idiot. You just have to be confident enough to laugh it off."

Tickets to Bohn's show can be purchased online at www.lionslincolntheatre.org, or by calling the theater at 330-481-9105.
