Comedy fundraiser, disco party, zoo family day on tap in Springfield this weekend

Laugh, party, or spend time with family and animals at events happening in Springfield this weekend.

Here are five events to attend:

Comedy Fundraiser

Laugh for a cause on Friday at a comedy fundraiser for The Parent Place.

The event begins at 7:30 p.m.at Arlington's Catering and Historic Venue, 210 Broadway.

Local comics will perform and be entered to win a $50 gift card. Tickets are $20 and proceeds will go to The Parent Place, a local child abuse prevention organization.

There will be a cash bar. Donations of diapers are encouraged.

Clique's Annual Disco Party

Dress up and dance for the annual Studio 54 Disco Party Costume Contest on Friday.

The event runs from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. at Clique, 411 E. Washington St.

Mahogany Knight will host the costume contest and there will be a variety of performances. First place in the contest wins $100 cash and second place wins $50.

Sacred Rhythms: Song, Spoken Word and Dance

The Liturgical Arts Festival and the Greater Springfield Interfaith Association will host an arts performance and lecture Friday and Saturday.

The event serves as a run-up to the Parliament of World Religions in Chicago Aug. 14-18.

"Sacred Rhythms: Song, Spoken Word and Dance" will feature Diane Dietz and the Interfaith Performers at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 533 S. Walnut St., at 7 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday, Sister Sharon Zayac lectures on "The Integrity of Creation," at Temple Israel, 1040 W. Governor St., at 2 p.m. followed by an interfaith panel.

Zayac is co-founder of Jubilee Farm, the Springfield Dominicans' 164-acre center for ecology and spirituality.

Family Day at Henson Robinson Zoo

Henson Robinson Zoo will host Family Day in celebration of world breastfeeding week on Saturday.

The event runs from 8-9:50 a.m. at 1100 E. Lake Shore Drive.

There will be face painting, gift basket giveaways, snacks and entertainment. Admission is free.

75th Anniversary Open House

Celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Abraham Lincoln Airport at its open house weekend.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at 1200 Capital Airport Dr.

Tours of Illinois Air National Guard facility, displays of aircraft and vehicles, and children's activities will be included. There will also be a TSA job fair, food trucks and pancake and sausage breakfasts by the Boy Scouts from 9 a.m. to noon.
