Comedy, love, music & revolution: 5 shows at Cape Cod theaters

The summer is truly winding down now: Two theaters are finishing up their summer season of shows this week and one company is completing a short early-September run, while a local community theater is just starting its season with a Neil Simon comedy.

To see what our reviewers think of “The Fantasticks” at Cape Playhouse in Dennis, “The Revolutionists” at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater and a "Quickies" show of short plays by Provincetown Dramatic Arts, and to decide whether to try to catch them before they’re gone, check out https://www.capecodtimes.com/story/entertainment.

And here’s what’s new on Cape stages this weekend:

Simon comedy is revived

It’s a family project for the start of Eventide Theatre Company’s season on the Gertrude Lawrence Stage at Dennis Union Church (713 Main St.). Ruthe Lew will direct Neil Simon’s “The Sunshine Boys,” which will star husband Barry Lew and Cleo Zani. Son Ari Lew is also in the cast, along with Cara Girardi and Doug Sivco.

The plot of Simon’s 1972 comedy is described as being about “two legendary (and cranky) comics brought together for a reunion and revival of their famous act.” That's Barry Lew and Zani, seen often on Cape stages, as the two comics.
